What is Filer?

For most staff and faculty of the College of Architecture, Filer is known as the “O Drive” or “Shared Drive”. However, these “drives” are only a result of the Window's process known as Folder Redirection.

What is Folder Redirection?

Info

Please note COA ITS enables Folder Redirection on Windows workstations only. Folder Redirection is not compatible with Mac devices.

Folder Redirection takes any “common” folders from a personnel’s profile and ”redirects” “redirects” it to any Windows workstation they log on to (that is on campus). This means a staff member can log into one computer and save a picture then log into a different computer to find the picture in the same location.

Note

Non-standard folders (i.e., Saved directly on C:\) will not work with Folder Redirection.

What Kind of Data Does Filer

...

Store?

In the College of Architecture, a wide range of data is stored in Filer for staff and faculty. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Staff and faculty’s files and documents from COA Windows workstations.

    • Includes student workers who use COA Windows workstations.

    • If you use a COA Mac workstation, you can still access Filer but your files and documents are stored with a different process.

  • Shared files from different departments and centers in the college.
