Overview

This is a reference article regarding a few items available for checkout from Francis. These items are more tailored to COSC students. We have compiled this small reference guide on instructions on how to use these items.

Google Project Tango 

Requirements: You may need a Google account to download apps for the Tango 

  • Follow the instructions on the screen, they will take you through the normal Android setup procedure. The tablet will be wiped after returning it to ITS so no need to worry about your personal information. 

  • After you finish the setup and hit the home screen, connect to WiFi. 

  • The tablet may prompt for updates, do so and afterward follow Google's guide here: https://developers.google.com/project-tango/hardware/tablet 

iPad + Structure Sensor

Note: You may need an Apple account to download apps 

  • Follow the setup instructions when you turn on the iPad. The tablet will be wiped after returning it to ITS so no need to worry about your personal information.

  • Once you are done, go to the App Store and you can download the following apps:

    • Structure by Occipital, Inc 

    • Viewer by Occipital, Inc 

    • Scanner by Occipital, Inc 

    • Fetch by Occipital, Inc 

    • Structure Sensor Calibrator by Occipital, Inc 

  • It is recommended you run the calibration app before using it for anything else, and follow the on-screen directions. 

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 + Gear VR

Note: You do not need to have a Google/Gmail account to use the Gear VR

Note: Setting up the phone per new user will take about 5 minutes

Note: Be sure to keep the phone charged before and after use or else you will have a short experience.

  • Follow the instructions on the screen, they will take you through the normal Android setup procedure. The tablet will be wiped after returning it to ITS so no need to worry about your personal information. 

  • Be sure to set up Wifi credentials either during initial set up or after you get to the home screen. 

  • At the home screen, make sure the screen is unlocked. 

  • Plugin the phone to the Gear VR and within 30 seconds a display should appear when you put the goggles on. 

  • It will ask you to unplug and update the phone. Do so. 

  • Once it is done, plug it back in and put on the goggles again. 

  • If it doesn't ask for another update, you can follow the tutorial and continue to use it as normal. 

  • DO NOT SPEED THROUGH THE TUTORIAL IF IT IS YOUR FIRST TIME. It is essential on learning how to use the Gear VR.
